The Engineering Geology group (Prof. Jordan Aaron) is inviting applications for an excellent candidate to fill a senior assistant position that will contribute to the research and teaching performed in the group.

The position is available as early as January 1st, 2023, and is initially funded for five years.

Job description

The Engineering Geology group performs high quality research and teaching in topics such as rock and soil mechanics, landslide analysis and construction of underground excavations. You will contribute to the research projects being done in the group, develop their own research directions, and significantly contribute to teaching within the Engineering Geology master’s program. In particular, the following is expected:

  • Contribution to research being performed in the Engineering Geology group
  • Planning, funding and management of own research projects
  • Development of a strong academic portfolio through research and teaching
  • Teaching of courses related to underground excavations and rock mechanics/rock engineering
  • Supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD students
  • Participation in international conferences and meetings

Your profile

  • You should have a PhD and at least two years of experience in the fields of underground excavations, rock mechanics, and/or related fields.
  • You are reliable, ambitious, and able to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • You are an enthusiastic and committed teacher.
  • Practical work experience in the above-mentioned fields is highly valued.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required, and knowledge of German is considered an asset.
